2024. ChatGPT adds Projects

ChatGPT now features projects - workspaces that makes it easier to organize everything you're working on. Projects will appear in the sidebar. When creating them, you can choose a name, set the folder icon color, and add the necessary files. You can also create instructions that determine how ChatGPT should respond to specific requests within a specific project. ChatGPT will then process all chats and files and create a project context in its memory—you can ask any questions and set tasks within this context. Projects are already available in ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Teams. They will soon be available in the free plan.
2022. Google brings back free G Suite accounts for businesses with fewer than 10 employees

Google recently announced it would be completely eliminating the free G Suite plan, but this sparked a strong backlash from users, so the company has softened its decision slightly. Free account holders with fewer than 10 users will be able to migrate their apps and data to a free Google Workspace business account. It will not include any additional tools (which the company will discuss later). To migrate, log in to your G Suite account and fill out a form.
2018. Project management service Asana valued at $1.5B

Project management platform Asana has raised $50 million at valuation of $1.5 billion. Asana will use the funds for global expansion and product development. The company plans to establish a data center in Frankfurt and open offices in Tokyo and Sydney. Asana was founded in 2008 and has since raised $213 million in funding. As of September of this year, 50,000 organizations use the paid version of the platform, while "millions" of people use the free version.
2017. Atlassian acquired project management service Trello

Altassian has acquired the popular project and work management service Trello for $425 million. It is known for its Kanban approach to project management. All tasks are presented as cards on the desktop, sorted into columns by status (to-do, in progress, done, etc.). This makes it easy to assess the overall project picture at a glance. Trello currently has 19 million users. As a result of the deal, Trello will retain its brand and functionality and will be integrated into Atlassian's product stack (which primarily focuses on software and design firms). This includes the JIRA issue tracker, the HipChat group chat, the Confluence document collaboration service, and other applications.
2012. ProjectLibre replaces OpenProj

In 2008, the open-source project management system OpenProj was acquired by Serena Software. Immediately after the acquisition, support for the product was discontinued due to the threat of lawsuits from Microsoft for copying interface solutions, and the source code was made available for free online. The founders of OpenProj took over the project, but under the new label ProjectLibre. The developers plan to completely rewrite the application code, so ProjectLibre may soon technically shed its fork status. ProjectLibre features include support for Microsoft Project 2010 file formats, a new Ribbon user interface, Gantt charts, PERT charts, project resource allocation schedules, and PDF export. Like its predecessor, ProjectLibre runs on Windows and Linux.
2011. Basecamp Adds File Storage to Free Version

Despite 37Signals' recent dismissive attitude toward free and low-cost accounts, they decided to add online file storage to the free version of Basecamp. However, its capacity is only 10 MB, making it practically impossible to use it seriously (by comparison, Box.net provides 10 GB of file storage with free accounts). As for Basecamp's file storage, you can upload any type of file, and images can be previewed directly in the browser. Version history can be saved for each file, allowing you to roll back changes.
2010. TeamLab - free alternative to Basecamp

Latvian service Teamlab is now available. It's a very interesting solution for collaboration and project management, often compared to Basecamp. Teamlab is available either as a free SaaS service (with virtually no restrictions) or as an installable open-source system (again, free). Considering that Teamlab is a truly high-quality solution, comparable in functionality to Basecamp, one wonders: why such generosity? According to the developer, Teamlab was created for their own needs and they liked it so much that they decided to share their enthusiasm with others. The company hopes to attract third-party developers to develop the product and gain popularity through free users to truly compete with Basecamp in the global market. Then they plan to introduce paid features (while promising that the open-source version will remain free forever).
