26.05.26. Trello gets unified Inbox

Project management and collaboration service Trello has unveiled new Inbox section, where you can collect tasks from Slack and Microsoft Teams messages, email (forward messages to inbox@app.trello.com), voice prompts on iOS like "Hey Siri, add 'Contact Alexa' to Trello," and notes added via the mobile widget on Android. The new AI function Trello Quick Capture analyzes forwarded messages from corporate messengers and email, extracts due dates and priorities, and adds these parameters to tasks. Another new feature, Trello Planner, allows you to plan your day by connecting your Google or Microsoft calendar. You can also drag and drop tasks from your Trello Inbox or boards directly into Planner.

2025. Trello redesign causes outrage among users

Atlassian has introduced an update to its project management service Trello and it was immediately met by users in a sharply negative way. The update introduced a variety of changes to the service interface, for example, it changed the arrangement of all the main interface elements on the page. The fonts and functions of the buttons have also changed - especially in the task card. Many users are sure that the new Trello interface was implemented specially to make it as inconvenient as possible and it's a secret attempt by Atlassian to force them to switch to Jira, which provides similar functionality, but is more expensive. Both services have free plans, but if you consider the paid plans, Jira costs at least $7.53 per user, while Trello costs $5. As a reminder, Atlassian acquired Trello back in 2017.

2021. Trello adopted for more complex projects

The collaboration platform Trello has released its largest update, including a new interface design and several new features. Trello remains essentially the same: boards and cards in columns. But the capabilities of cards have been significantly expanded. A new Team Table View format has been introduced, in which a Trello board is displayed not as a set of columns, but as an interactive table (where each row is a card). The idea is to collect data from multiple boards and view it in a single table with filtering and other similar features. A similar principle, writes Fast Company, is also used by Airtable, Notion, and Coda. The new version also introduces formats with self-explanatory names: Timeline View, Calendar View, Dashboard View, Map View, and new integrations.

2017. Atlassian acquired project management service Trello

Altassian has acquired the popular project and work management service Trello for $425 million. It is known for its Kanban approach to project management. All tasks are presented as cards on the desktop, sorted into columns by status (to-do, in progress, done, etc.). This makes it easy to assess the overall project picture at a glance. Trello currently has 19 million users. As a result of the deal, Trello will retain its brand and functionality and will be integrated into Atlassian's product stack (which primarily focuses on software and design firms). This includes the JIRA issue tracker, the HipChat group chat, the Confluence document collaboration service, and other applications.
