2026. Trello gets unified Inbox

Project management and collaboration service Trello has unveiled new Inbox section, where you can collect tasks from Slack and Microsoft Teams messages, email (forward messages to inbox@app.trello.com), voice prompts on iOS like "Hey Siri, add 'Contact Alexa' to Trello," and notes added via the mobile widget on Android. The new AI function Trello Quick Capture analyzes forwarded messages from corporate messengers and email, extracts due dates and priorities, and adds these parameters to tasks. Another new feature, Trello Planner, allows you to plan your day by connecting your Google or Microsoft calendar. You can also drag and drop tasks from your Trello Inbox or boards directly into Planner.

2023. Xmind adds task tracker

The developers of the mind mapping app Xmind have added a task management feature. This allows users to easily include tasks in their mind maps and track their progress. You can create tasks and mark them as completed, track the current status of tasks, and gain a clear picture of your current situation. What adds a practical dimension to this is the ability to filter out less important information, allowing you to focus solely on the tasks that matter most to you. This also serves as a motivating factor, ensuring you manage your time and energy wisely and don't neglect important tasks.

2019. Todoist adds project sections and magic button for adding tasks

Todoist, a popular service for personal productivity and collaboration, has rolled out a major update. Now, instead of an endless list of tasks, you can create sections on the project page and combine tasks according to their purpose, for example, by project stage. Tasks can easily be dragged between sections. Projects are now divided into two lists: Work and Personal. The task page has been updated, now displaying all subtasks and comments. The developers also stole the magic "Add Task" button from the competing organizer, Things. You can drag it around the screen (on your smartphone) to add a new task anywhere in the list.

2017. Microsoft unveiled productivity app To-Do that will replace Wunderlist

Microsoft acquired the popular mobile to-do list app Wunderlist back in 2015, and now it’s preparing users for its eventual demise with the release of its new application To-Do. The new app was built by the team behind Wunderlist, and will bring in the favorite elements of that app in the months ahead. The company also added that it won’t shut down Wunderlist until it’s confident that it has “incorporated the best of Wunderlist into To-Do.” In the meantime, Microsoft is encouraging Wunderlist users to make the switch by offering an importer that will bring in your lists and to-dos from Wunderlist into To-Do, where those items will now be available in other Microsoft products, like Exchange and Outlook. The To-Do app is not ready at this point to meet the needs of all Wunderlist users, however. As many users realized, some platforms do not yet support To-Do, including Mac, iPad and Android tablet. Task list sharing is also not available.

2011. Do.com vs. Asana: Which Task Manager is more Free?

Two task and project management services, Do.com and Asana, are aiming to replace Outlook as the go-to corporate task manager. Asana was founded by Facebook co-founders and architects Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein. Asana is so simple and beautiful, and works so quickly, that it amazes even experienced web app users. Furthermore, Asana is completely free for teams of up to 30 users. As for Do.com, it's a new Salesforce service, which is also completely free for now. However, Salesforce promises to introduce paid features soon, and there will likely be limits on the number of users or disk space.

2010. Producteev - truly cross-platform task manager

Previously, programs that ran on Windows, Mac, and Linux were considered cross-platform. Then, web services running in a browser were considered cross-platform. But today, the word "cross-platform" has got a new meaning. Almost all popular applications and web services have become platforms themselves: Facebook, GMail, iPhone, SharePoint... For a modern business application, having a "client" for Facebook or Outlook is no less important than having a desktop client for Windows. The task collaboration service Producteev is trying to exploit this trend. In addition to the "traditional" web interface, it allows you to work with tasks from email, instant messengers, mobile devices, and social networks (i.e., in those places where the user primarily spends their time). An Outlook plugin, a Mac client, and an Android client will be available soon. Producteev is free for virtual workgroups of up to 3 users.

2007. HiTask - collaborative Web 2.0 task manager

HiTask is free, visually appealing, and designed to appeal to followers of David Allan and his "Getting Things Done" project. It doesn't require email confirmation. For a small fee, according to the About page, you can get HiTask Premium. The developers are working to implement export and import from/to Outlook/Google Calendar/Other applications, and very soon you'll be able to save all your data to a text file.
