2026. GitLab adds AI agent - GitLab Duo.

Software development management platform GitLab has introduced GitLab Duo - chat interface for interacting with AI agents during development. It can perform actions on your behalf: create and edit code, open pull requests, sort and update tasks/epics, and launch workflows with full SDLC platform context. It keeps you informed at every step. The agent can independently resolve security incidents, clean up legacy code, or implement multi-stage deployments. Thanks to CI/CD automation, it runs in the background and maintains process continuity. You can also create flows—combinations of multiple specialized agents working together. They organize multi-stage workflows to solve complex problems.

2019. Atlassian Bitbucket adds DevOps tool similar to GitHub Actions

Bitbucket, a service that helps developers collaborate on code, has introduced a new feature called Bitbucket Pipes. It allows you to automate code testing and then release it (if it works), creating a pipeline for each release. According to the creators, this tool can reduce the process to just a few minutes. With it, Atlassian follows a popular new methodology in developer work with code called continuous integration (CI) - the process of continuously testing and releasing code. Increasingly, teams are required to write code themselves, test it, and then release it, as opposed to the old days of separate teams for each process. Bitbucket Pipes is similar to GitHub Actions, a feature that was also recently introduced and is being touted by Microsoft as a major competitive advantage.

2015. Google again launched Github competitor

Just recently, Google shut down its service for storing code in software projects, Google Code, citing that it couldn't compete with Github (even Google developers used Github instead of it). But today, Google launched another similar project, Cloud Source Repositories, designed for storing and editing code. The service was launched on the Google Cloud Platform and is obviously intended primarily for developers using this platform for their applications. In the future, Google plans to release additional tools, such as Cloud Debugger, which will allow you to check your Java code without stopping the application and will also mark problem areas directly in the repository. At the end of 2015, the company plans to release an API for Cloud Source Repositories, allowing developers to create their own tools for working with the repository.
