WordPress.com (the SaaS version of the CMS system from Automattic) has added a built-in AI assistant for editing websites in the context of their content and structure, allowing site owners to make changes using natural language commands. The new tool allows to adjust the site's structure and styles using specific or general statements, such as "make this section more modern or spacious" or "change the site's colors to be brighter and more saturated" or "add Contacts page". However, the assistant only works with block themes, not classic ones. The AI ​​can also write/update website content, suggest headline variations, generate images and fact-check (if you trust AI). Google Gemini is used as the LLM.


2024. Tilda now allows to create pages using AI



Tilda website builder now lets you generate an entire web page from scratch using artificial intelligence. Simply specify a topic and describe the details in detail, such as your target audience or business objectives. Based on this data, AI will generate the page structure and texts and select images. The more detail you provide, the better the result. AI will automatically select relevant blocks from the library, write texts based on your task description, and find suitable images. If the generated content in some blocks doesn't suit your needs, you can edit the page or regenerate the block to achieve the perfect result.


2024. Bitrix24 unveiled AI assistant for website creation



The Bitrix24 team has released the new "Gravity" update. It adds new business tools to the system, including the CoPilot AI assistant, which can create websites in minutes based on your specifications in just a few sentences. You can also make changes to your website via a simple chat with the AI ​​assistant. The tool will automatically select a design, write text, create images, and add forms. All potential client contacts left on the website are automatically saved in the CRM.

2015. WordPress acquired e-commerce platform WooCommerce



Automattic, the company behind WordPress, has acquired WooCommerce, which develops a popular plugin that turns WordPress into an e-commerce platform. WooCommerce currently powers at least 650,000 online stores. Automattic is not disclosing the purchase price but says it is by far "Automattic's largest acquisition to date." WooCommerce is characterized by its ease of use. Adding products is implemented in the same way as adding a new blog post. PayPal support for accepting payments is included out of the box. It also allows for managing shipping logistics and inventory. WordPress.com competitors, such as Squarespace, have e-commerce modules, and of course, there are online store builders such as Shopify, Big Cartel, and Bigcommerce.

Zoho Sites had a similar version. But then Zoho decided to make the service completely free with no restrictions (fully unlimited). The only way they will make money is by selling additional modules, which are mainly designed for security and online stores. Zoho representative said that they (traditionally) don't spend money on advertising and PR, and such a free service will attract many customers not only to the website builder but also to other Zoho services.
