2026. Remote.Team implements end-to-end encryption for tasks and confidential chats

Collaboration platform Remote.Team has implemented end-to-end encryption for tasks and private discussions. This is a significant step in strengthening data security for companies and teams using the service. The new feature ensures that confidential information, discussions and business correspondence within tasks are protected to the highest level. Data is encrypted on the sender's device and can only be decrypted on the recipient's device, preventing access by third parties, including platform operators. Private discussions with employees, partners, or clients will now remain confidential.

2025. Anthropic integrated Claude into Slack.

Anthropic has integrated its AI model, Claude, into Slack. Users can now interact with the model in channels, threads and private messages. Enterprise AI agents and chatbots powered by Claude can leverage context from the Slack workspace. Claude can participate in chats and assist in discussions, analyze documents or prepare responses to important messages directly within Slack. The model has access only to channels and conversations accessible to the specific user. When Claude is engaged in a public thread, it first creates a draft privately so that the author can review and edit it. Additionally, if a company uses Claude Code (one of the best code generation models available today), connecting it to Slack allows code generation to take into account technical agreements and decisions reached in meetings.

2025. ChatGPT gets group chats

ChatGPT now lets you create group chats, which (as supposed) can be used for collaborative planning, brainstorming, and decision-making. In these conversations, the neural network doesn't respond to every message, but rather monitors the conversation to assist only when needed. Chats include search, file upload, and dictation features. The chatbot's response to a specific user depends on their plan and available data limit. Special instructions for the chatbot can be specified through the group settings. How this will work is still unclear, as sometimes ChatGPT itself can become overwhelming. Most likely, it will simply be asked to shut up and stay out of the way.

2024. Google Chat adds quick audio conferencing like in Slack

Google Chat, the enterprise chat service, has added an instant voice meeting feature similar to "Huddles" in Slack. It allows you to quickly create a group voice or video call directly from within a chat. Interestingly, Google even plagiarized the name—the feature is also called "Huddles." To start a quick meeting, simply click the drop-down menu next to the call icon and select "Start the huddle." By default, this will be an audio call, but users can turn on video or share their screen, just like in Google Meet. The new feature will be available to all Workspace users within a few weeks.

2024. Google Chat gets AI features

Google is adding features based on the Gemini AI model to its Workspace business service. These features will be integrated into existing Workspace accounts and are also available as a paid add-on for $10 per user per month. Google Chat, the team messaging app, has also received AI features. These include a chat summary feature that automatically captures meeting notes, and a "Translate for Me" tool that can automatically translate into 69 different languages. This is especially useful when communicating with employees from different parts of the company.

2021. Meta and Microsoft announced the integration of Workplace and Teams

Although Facebook Workplace and Microsoft Teams compete in the collaboration software market, they approach it from different angles. Workplace is focused on company-wide social interaction, while Teams offers tools for instant communication between employees. Thanks to product integration, Teams users can access Workplace content within the app, and Teams video conferences can be viewed within the Workplace app. In addition to Teams, Workplace is already integrated with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Azure Active Directory, and OneDrive.

2020. Salesforce buys Slack for $27.7B

Salesforce, the CRM giant, is acquiring Slack in a $27.7 billion megadeal. The new deal also puts Salesforce more on par — and in competition — with its arch rival and sometime friend Microsoft, whose Teams product has been directly challenging Slack in the market. Microsoft, which passed on buying Slack in the past for a fraction of what Salesforce is paying today, has made Teams a key priority in recent quarters, loathe to cede any portion of the enterprise software market to another company. What really has set Slack apart from the pack, at least initially, was its ability to integrate with other enterprise software. When you combined that with bots, those intelligent digital helpers, the company could potentially provide Salesforce customers with a central place to work without changing focus because everything they need to do can be done in Slack.

2017. Microsoft Teams will replace Skype for Business

Microsoft announced that its new groupchat Teams will become its core communications platform for users running Office 365. Until now, Skype for Business was the company’s product for this. According to Ron Markezich, the company’s corporate VP for Office 365, Teams will become the “hero and primary experience for all voice, video and meetings.” Over time, Teams will replace the current Skype for Business client. Microsoft obviously knows that enterprises don’t move fast, so for those who don’t want to do away with their existing PBX systems and calling capabilities to the cloud, it’ll launch a new version of the Skype for Business server in 2018. For those who do make the transition to Teams, Microsoft promises lots of new calling features and meeting enhancements with outbound and inbound calls to and from regular phones, support for voicemail, call holding, call transfers and other standard telephony features.
