21.04.26. WooCommerce speeds up online store performance

A new version (10.7) of WooCommerce, an online store builder for WordPress, has been released. Slow loading speed is a well-known issue with WooCommerce, and the developers focused on this issue in the new version. They reduced the number of database queries by 51% on the main store pages and claim that loading speed will increase by an average of 15% (after all, the plugins you install on top of WordPress are not optimized). Version 10.7 also adds the ability to create custom shipping providers, convert order tracking numbers into clickable links in customer emails, and optimizes the API interface for retrieving all product data in a single request.

2025. Reddit has implemented WooCommerce integration

Reddit, the social networking service, has introduced direct integration with WooCommerce, allowing small and medium-sized e-commerce businesses to launch advertising campaigns on the platform with minimal technical overhead. The system allows WooCommerce stores to connect to Reddit advertising in minutes. Merchants can install the Reddit pixel on their website and use the API for conversion tracking. The platform also automatically syncs product catalogs with Reddit Ads Manager and maintains regular update cycles to ensure up-to-date pricing and availability information. Earlier this year, Reddit introduced dynamic ad creation for products.

2015. WordPress acquired e-commerce platform WooCommerce

Automattic, the company behind WordPress, has acquired WooCommerce, which develops a popular plugin that turns WordPress into an e-commerce platform. WooCommerce currently powers at least 650,000 online stores. Automattic is not disclosing the purchase price but says it is by far "Automattic's largest acquisition to date." WooCommerce is characterized by its ease of use. Adding products is implemented in the same way as adding a new blog post. PayPal support for accepting payments is included out of the box. It also allows for managing shipping logistics and inventory. WordPress.com competitors, such as Squarespace, have e-commerce modules, and of course, there are online store builders such as Shopify, Big Cartel, and Bigcommerce.
