Discord enabled video call end-to-end encryption by default
25.05.2026
Discord has enabled end-to-end encryption of voice and video calls for all users. End-to-end encryption means Discord users can now communicate privately, and no one, not even Discord, can eavesdrop on their conversations. Discord launched end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls in 2024, but it had to be enabled separately, and many users forgot to do it. This news contrasts sharply with a general trend this year. Recently, social media giant Meta disabled end-to-end encryption for Instagram messages. TikTok also announced it would no longer use end-to-end encryption for user messages after becoming a US company. Discord is often used by project teams for quick collaboration, so this news is also important for business users.
Microsoft Teams now allows to control the size of shared content
18.05.2026
Microsoft Teams has added several new features. In group video calls, you can now drag the window divider between the shared content and the participants' video feed tiles to adjust the size of each element. The developers have also simplified the app bar; in particular, labels are now hidden by default to reduce distraction for meeting participants. You can now filter Teams chats by @name. Teams now automatically detects the spoken language of each speaker and updates it in real time as the conversation unfolds (manually selecting the spoken language will no longer be possible). Microsoft 365 Copilot can now answer incoming calls in Teams and schedule follow-up meetings, allowing you to spend less time on routine tasks.
Zoom added AI assistant to free web version.
16.12.2025
Zoom has added its AI Companion to the web version and gave free users access to its features, such as a meeting summary, in-meeting questions and AI-powered note-taking. However, there is a limitation: free users can only use the AI Companion for three meetings per month. They can purchase an additional plan for $10 to access unlimited AI Companion's features. With this update, the Companion can also retrieve information from third-party services such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, as well as all data stored within Zoom. The company said it will soon add support for Gmail and Microsoft Outlook. The AI Companion also generates a daily report summarizing meetings, tasks and updates. Furthermore, the Companion can also create tasks for later follow-up and draft emails.
Google Meet added AI makeup
15.10.2025
Video conferencing service Google Meet finally has added an AI-powered makeup filter for those days when you don't feel like applying real makeup before a meeting. The new feature will help it compete with other video conferencing platforms that already support virtual makeup, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Google Meet offers 12 different makeup options to choose from. Google claims the virtual makeup will stay in place regardless of the user's movements on the screen. So, if the user takes a sip of coffee, the filter will stay on their face, not move to their mug.
Amazon shuts down its videoconferencing service Chime
22.02.2025
Amazon has decided to discontinue its alternative to Zoom and Google Meet - Chime. Launched in 2017 with a focus on business usage, Chime had little adoption outside of Amazon. This factor largely contributed to its shutdown, a spokesperson told the outlet. Existing customers will still be able to schedule and host meetings, add and manage users and take advantage of features in the Amazon Chime administration console, a company blog post explains. The Amazon Chime SDK, however, will not be impacted. Customers are advised to delete their data before the shutdown and make the move to another web meetings service. Amazon recommends other solutions like AWS Wickr, Zoom or Salesforce’s Slack.
