Oracle shares soar 33% on boom of its Cloud AI services

Oracle shares have surged more than 33%, making Oracle founder Larry Ellison the world's richest person in a single day after the company said demand for its AI cloud services was growing. Since the start of 2025, the company's stock has already risen 45%, outpacing even the Magnificent Seven and the S&P 500 index. Investors are betting on a boom in the AI cloud space, where Oracle is becoming an increasingly influential player. In August, Oracle signed four multi-billion dollar contracts with three clients and CEO Safra Catz said there would be more such deals in the coming months, with orders potentially exceeding $500 billion. However, Reuters notes that despite this breakthrough, the main players in the cloud market remain Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud with a combined share of 65%.
SAP to invest €20B in Sovereign Cloud for Europe

SAP, a world-famous developer of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, has decided to invest heavily in the cloud business. It has officially announced the intention to invest over 20 billion euros in the so-called "Sovereign Cloud". This is SAP's initiative to develop European cloud services. SAP's main goal is to "sovereignize" the data of its European users. It seeks to store information within the European Union in order to comply with local laws. SAP also announced the large-scale development of its cloud platform SAP Cloud. In particular, it now offers its customers the "Infrastructure as a Service" (IaaS) option, which allows companies to access various computing services through the SAP data center network.

Amazon has launched a cloud service, CodeWhisperer, which uses machine learning to generate suggestions as you write code. The tool is designed to accelerate software development and create training datasets for its artificial intelligence projects. CodeWhisperer was trained on trillions of lines of code from open-source projects, both internal repositories and various other sources. The service can generate more than ten lines of code at a time and bases its recommendations on various contextual cues. Jeff Barr, vice president and chief evangelist at Amazon, explained that CodeWhisperer uses a variety of contextual cues to generate recommendations, including the cursor location, the code preceding the cursor, and code in other files in the same project.

IBM has unveiled a new mainframe with an integrated AI accelerator, the z16, which is based on the Telum microchip released in summer 2021. According to IBM, the processor is optimized to process 300 billion financial transactions per day. The z16 is resistant to quantum computers capable of breaking encryption, thanks to its cryptographic lattice and the Crypto Express 8S (CEX8S) hardware security module. Unlike supercomputers, mainframes are primarily designed to support large volumes of input, output, and storage data.
Microsoft Azure to host GPT-3 instances for its clients

Microsoft announced OpenAI Service based on its Azure cloud platform. The service can be used for a variety of tasks, from processing client requests and summarizing large texts to writing code or generating answers to questions. Microsoft cited the example of a sports franchise developing an app to interact with fans during matches. Using GPT-3, a stream of comments can be transformed into short compilations of game highlights or generated original content for social media. Microsoft promised to provide customers with tools for filtering and moderating user requests and responses. In May, the company integrated the GPT-3 algorithm into the Power Apps low-code development platform to simplify coding.
