2025. Microsoft Adds Anthropic Models to Copilot

OpenAI recently signed a $100 billion contract with NVidia, seemingly replacing Microsoft as its preferred partner. And perhaps that's why Microsoft suddenly decided to use models from OpenAI's main competitor, Anthropic, in its AI assistant Copilot (along with ChatGPT). Microsoft signed a deal to use Anthropic's AI in Office 365 applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Thus, business users of Copilot will be able to choose between GPT and Claude for specific tasks, such as complex research, building custom AI tools and enterprise-grade agents. For example, Claude Opus 4.1 is better suited for complex reasoning, coding and deep architecture planning, while Claude Sonnet 4 is better suited for routine development tasks, processing large amounts of data and content generation.

2025. Google Adds Canvas to Gemini

Gemini has introduced Canvas, an interactive workspace designed to make writing and programming more comfortable and efficient. Competitors ChatGPT and Claude introduced a similar feature six months ago. Using Canvas, you can create drafts of texts and quickly edit them with Gemini's feedback to improve clarity, tone, length, or formatting. This feature is especially useful for content creators who need to refine their texts without switching between multiple tools. For developers, Canvas is an equally powerful tool. It can generate, debug, and explain code, facilitating the iteration of your projects.

2025. Elon Musk unveiled the Grok 3 chatbot. It's supposedly better than ChatGPT and DeepSeek

Last week, Elon Musk tried to buy OpenAI for a record sum, and this week, his AI startup xAI released its new flagship AI model, Grok 3, which, according to Musk, is better than ChatGPT. Why spend a hundred billion on ChatGPT if you have a better model? To be fair, it's worth mentioning that an early version of Grok 3, codenamed "Chocolate," achieved the highest score in Chatbot Arena, a platform where users compare responses from different models. Also, according to xAI, Grok-3 Reasoning outperformed ChatGPT o3-mini-high in a number of popular benchmarks, including AIME 2025 Performance. However, as the DeepSeek example has shown, all these ratings and benchmarks are not the best way to evaluate the quality of an AI model.

2024. Google Bard renamed to Gemini. Google Assistant switched to Gemini engine

Demis Hassabis's Deepmind team has won a victory within Google. The Gemini model will completely replace the Bard model, developed in-house. The Bard language chatbot has already been renamed to Gemini, and the Google Assistant has switched to the Gemini engine (though currently only in English). Google claims that Gemini matches and even surpasses OpenAI's GPT-4 neural network in many respects. Bard currently uses Gemini Pro, the mid-range model in the Gemini series. Gemini is said to process information like the human brain and outperform all existing neural networks in any domain. Language in this AI model is just one of the information formats, along with code, images, audio, and video.

2023. Elon Musk's company xAI launched its LLM - Grok

Elon Musk's company xAI has unveiled Grok, its own language model. The developers say Grok is an artificial intelligence inspired by Musk's favorite book, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." Remember, there was a supercomputer built to answer the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. And it calculated the answer: 42. As for the Earth-based Grok, it is said to be able to answer almost any question and, what's much more difficult, even suggest which questions to ask. "It will also answer the thorny questions that most other AI systems reject," xAI adds. Grok can be accessed with a Premium+ subscription on the X platform (Twitter).

2023. Amazon invests $4B in AI startup Anthropic

Amazon has announced one of the largest investments in its history. The investment in the AI startup Anthropic will amount to a whopping $4 billion. As a reminder, Microsoft signed an agreement to invest $11 billion in OpenAI. This officially makes Anthropic OpenAI's main competitor (excluding Google startups). Anthropic was founded in 2021 by OpenAI alumni and, naturally, is developing a language model. The startup also has its own AI chatbot, Claude 2, which competes with ChatGPT. As part of the partnership, Anthropic's models will be powered by Amazon Web Services. Amazon likely wants to become a one-stop shop for artificial intelligence: its own chips for training models, selling this service, and AWS, which will handle all the processing.

2021. Microsoft Azure to host GPT-3 instances for its clients

Microsoft announced OpenAI Service based on its Azure cloud platform. The service can be used for a variety of tasks, from processing client requests and summarizing large texts to writing code or generating answers to questions. Microsoft cited the example of a sports franchise developing an app to interact with fans during matches. Using GPT-3, a stream of comments can be transformed into short compilations of game highlights or generated original content for social media. Microsoft promised to provide customers with tools for filtering and moderating user requests and responses. In May, the company integrated the GPT-3 algorithm into the Power Apps low-code development platform to simplify coding.

2020. Google Cloud now offers specialized AI services for healthcare

Google has introduced two new cognitive API services on its cloud platform: Healthcare Natural Language API and AutoML Entity Extraction for Healthcare. The first is designed for extracting data from unstructured medical texts/documents. The second is for easily creating machine learning models for extracting named entities from medical documents and patient conversation recordings. Both services provide APIs for integration into healthcare information systems.

2014. IBM opens Watson capabilities to third-party applications

IBM has launched Watson Developer Cloud, which allows application developers to harness the cognitive capabilities of this artificial intelligence. This is implemented through APIs on the IBM BlueMix cloud platform. Specifically, functions such as language detection, machine translation, text analysis, data visualization are available, as well as Watson's core function—answering questions posed in natural language (which is what Watson was originally designed for). This means you can ask Watson to examine text materials on a specific topic, ask it questions, and receive short answers (requiring knowledge, not logical thinking). However, for now, Watson can only answer questions in English.
