2025. LinkedIn Adds Free AI Recruiting Tools

LinkedIn has introduced a free version of its AI recruiting toolset designed for small businesses. Hiring Assistant helps find qualified candidates and filter applications. Recruiters can upload job descriptions, and the tool will automatically search for and compile a list of suitable candidates. It also provides feedback on candidates throughout the hiring process. You don't need to be a paid LinkedIn user to use the basic version of the AI tool. LinkedIn has also developed an AI tool for job seekers. Called Jobs Match, it advises users whether applying for a particular position is worth their time. Both products are built by LinkedIn using its own AI platform and data, although other job posting and resume sources may be integrated over time.
2024. LinkedIn is launching AI agent for recruiters

Business social network LinkedIn has unveiled Hiring Assistant, an AI agent for recruiters. It will handle routine tasks like generating job descriptions, searching for candidates, and evaluating them. This will free up HR professionals to focus on the strategic, people-focused aspects of their work. Recruiters are encouraged to bulk-up their job descriptions and candidate requirements into Hiring Assistant, which will then transform this data into job descriptions and generate a pipeline of candidates. Next year, Hiring Assistant promises to add new features, including messaging and interview scheduling.
2024. LinkedIn using AI to help users find jobs

LinkedIn has introduced a series of new AI-powered services to attract more users and increase engagement. The new tools will help users not only search for jobs, but also submit applications and cover letters, find relevant training materials, and search faster across LinkedIn. You can now search for jobs using convenient voice prompts. After you've found interesting openings, LinkedIn will help you write a cover letter or application letter. Artificial intelligence will also review your resume and other work-related materials. For Premium subscribers, LinkedIn is launching a pilot program called "Expert Advice from AI." Drawing on the knowledge of renowned instructors, AI coaches will provide personalized responses to users as a starting point.
2020. LinkedIn launched virtual event platform LinkedIn Events

To support businesses during the pandemic, LinkedIn is launching virtual event solutions that integrate LinkedIn Live streams and organizational tools. Event owners can announce a live stream on their LinkedIn page and send direct invitations to their first-step connections. Live streams can also be posted directly to their LinkedIn page and then saved to the page's "Videos" tab for community members to use as reference. Since LinkedIn Live generates 7x more comments and reactions than recorded videos, hosting a live stream on a brand page or in the "Events" section can boost real-time engagement.
2019. LinkedIn launches video streaming service for businesses

LinkedIn has launched LinkedIn Live, a streaming video service. It allows users to broadcast live events. Currently, the service is only available in the US and by invite. LinkedIn plans to allow business users to stream Q&A sessions, thematic events, conferences, investor presentations, award ceremonies, and product announcements. To ensure uninterrupted streaming, Microsoft (which has owned LinkedIn since December 2016) built the playback system on cloud-based Azure Media Services.
2016. LinkedIn launched eLearning platform LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn has launched LinkedIn Learning, an online education platform for professional upskilling and helping companies improve productivity of their employees. Currently, more than 9,000 courses are offered on subjects such as programming, business document writing, accounting, and more. Users can choose their own courses based on LinkedIn recommendations, and employers can assign courses to their employees and use LinkedIn analytics to track learning progress. The training is free for LinkedIn Premium subscribers, and $29.99 per month for everyone else. The first month is free for everyone. Last year, LinkedIn (which was not yet owned by Microsoft) acquired the largest online education platform, Lynda.com, for $1.5 billion.
2016. Microsoft to buy LinkedIn for $26.2B

Microsoft has announced that it is acquiring the social network for professionals LinkedIn for $26.2 billion. LinkedIn is keeping its branding and product, and it will become a part of Microsoft’s productivity and business processes segment. For Microsoft, it’s bringing a key, missing piece into the company’s strategy to build out more services for enterprises, and give it a key way to compete better against the likes of Salesforce (which it also reportedly tried to buy). LinkedIn is active in over 200 countries and has 105 million monthly active users, with 433 million registered overall. LinkedIn’s core business is based today around recruitment ads and, to a lesser extent, premium subscriptions for users.
2013. LinkedIn adds free simple CRM

LinkedIn has been steadily adding new features lately. Among them are SMS authorization - a standard feature for a modern online service, new, more vibrant mobile apps for iPhone and Android, the ability to post pictures and documents, the ability to add videos, presentations and images to your profile (this feature will especially please designers). The Contacts section has been transformed into a fully-fledged contact manager (almost a CRM), allowing you to track your relationship history with each of your LinkedIn contacts. It also reminds you of birthdays and offers to connect with you when the occasion arises. The contact list syncs with GMail, Outlook, Evernote, and other services (for example, if a contact updates their information in GMail, it will automatically update in your LinkedIn contact manager). A free LinkedIn Contacts mobile app for iOS and Android has also been released.
