06.03.26. Viber added AI correction and translation of messages

Viber has added AI-based functions that allow to correct and translate text into other languages directly in the input field before sending a message. They are designed to make daily communication clearer and more accurate. With improved messages, users will be able to convert a draft typed on the fly into a structured and concise text in a few clicks. The text of the message is improved with the help of OpenAI models. Viber says, these messages are not used to train artificial intelligence models and are deleted immediately after processing. Previously, Viber also added an AI chat summary feature.

2025. Viber improved chats between businesses and clients

Viber has launched new free features to help small businesses communicate with customers and promote their services more effectively. All customer chats will now be stored in a separate folder, allowing businesses to easily track inquiries and respond promptly. Chats initiated through QR codes, links, or business searches will automatically appear in the "Clients" folder. Businesses can also now allow customers to call them directly on Viber, even if the owner's phone number is not listed. During a call, only the company name and logo are displayed. Additionally, businesses can select two categories for their profile that best describe their products or services. This makes it easier for customers to find businesses in Viber search. Search results are adapted to the user's location, showing only businesses located in the same country and city. And with the "Local Search" feature, results are refined to a specific area or locality.

2025. Microsoft Copilot is now available on Viber

Viber users can now take advantage of Microsoft Copilot right within the app. Quickly answer questions, create an image to bring your ideas to life, translate into other languages - these and other tasks are now available without leaving the messenger. Copilot is an AI-powered assistant created by Microsoft (or rather, ChatGPT in a Microsoft wrapper). Users of the latest version of the messenger can save time, accomplish creative tasks, and increase their productivity thanks to AI. To get started, simply send a message to the Copilot bot in Viber.

2024. Viber added "Delete Without a Trace" feature for premium users

Messenger Viber has added the "Delete Without a Trace" feature, which allows users with Viber Plus subscription to discreetly unsend their messages, regardless of whether the recipients have read them. The company reported that "Invisible Mode" is currently the most popular feature, used by over 72% of Rakuten Viber users. It allows users to hide their online presence and view messages without being notified. Now, the "Delete Without a Trace" feature will expand users' capabilities, allowing them to quickly and discreetly delete their messages in chats. This feature is available only to Viber Plus premium subscribers, who receive additional features for convenient and comfortable communication, including a special account tag, unlimited access to stickers, direct support, and much more.

2024. Viber added ChatGPT-based chat summaries

New Viber feature will allow users to quickly and concisely retrieve the contents of a chat if they don't want to read the entire conversation but need to know the gist of the message. Users will now be able to get a summary of unread chats. The developers claim that the feature uses ChatGPT artificial intelligence. Only 10% of users on Android and iOS will be able to try the feature out for now. The company believes that this new feature will save time on reading missed conversations, as up to 100 such messages will be summarized by the system. This will prevent users from missing important news and notifications in group chats, and significantly reduce the time required to process such information.

2019. Viber has added a new feature: polls.

Viber now offers polling in group chats and communities. Polls work in real time. To do this, group chat participants or community administrators need to click the poll icon in the chat menu. Then, enter the question itself and up to 10 possible answers. All members of the group chat or community can vote by clicking "like" next to a specific answer. Poll results are visible immediately, as new votes are added. In a group chat, participants can see which option a particular user voted for by clicking on the corresponding answer. In communities, voting is anonymous.

2016. Viber launches public accounts for business

Viber has added the ability to create public accounts for companies and brands. Until now, Viber used public chats to communicate between businesses and clients. A company representative could write messages, but subscribers could only read them, or the company and client had to add each other as contacts. A business account will allow for two-way communication with subscribers. Furthermore, bots can be connected to these chats, and they can be integrated with your CRM system to view communication history in the client's profile. Currently, business accounts are only available upon request (like public chats), but they are completely free.

2014. Japanese internet giant Rakuten has acquired Viber.

Japanese company Rakuten acquired Viber, perhaps Skype's current main competitor, for $900 million. This immediately brought to mind the recent acquisition of fring by the American company Genband, which subsequently transformed fring into a service provider for telecom providers. However, in this case, there's no need to worry about Viber. Rakuten has no plans to shut down or redesign Viber to suit their needs. They'll simply invest in it in the hopes of beating Skype and somehow recouping their investment (for example, through the ViberOut IP telephony service). Rakuten has a diversified business investing in internet startups. For example, they own the Kobo e-book platform and are co-owners of Pinterest and other internet projects. Viber is a cross-platform messenger that supports free voice and, in some cases, video calling. Currently, the service has approximately 300 million users.
