2007. Zoho-Meeting - future alternative to Webex
Recently, the Indian company Zoho began beta testing a new web conferencing service, Zoho Meeting. This service will directly compete with applications from industry leader Webex, which was recently acquired by Cisco. Zoho Meeting offers tools for desktop sharing, remote control, screen scaling, screen annotation, and conference recording. There's a built-in chat, but no video or audio communication yet, though they say they'll be coming soon. Judging by the video presentation, it all works quite quickly and in good resolution. The main innovation is that users can join online conferences using one of the available options: ActiveX, Flash, or Java. This means the service is completely cross-platform, unlike Webex. Furthermore, the Flash client can be embedded anywhere Flash is allowed (for example, on any website). The developers themselves immediately came up with the idea of integrating it into their web presentation service, Zoho Show, meaning that presenters can now share their screen during a presentation and show something interesting to their audience. Furthermore, they promise to integrate Zoho Meeting into Zoho Chat, allowing for both chatting and sharing.
