2026. Bitrix24 added new features to its whiteboard tool



Bitrix24 has updated its visual collaboration tool, Boards, which allows to, for example, map out a sales process, plan a marketing campaign or company's job position structure. Table import and export is now available, allowing to quickly move existing data to a board and share it as needed. A minimap improves navigation on large boards, providing a complete overview of the workspace. Instead of scrolling through complex diagrams, users can quickly jump to the desired section. New emoji and stickers make it easier to respond to ideas or provide quick feedback without long comment threads. And new code blocks allow to add formatted code snippets directly to the board, which is especially useful for developers and product teams working on technical details in a shared space. Another interesting tool, a virtual cube, is an easy way to randomize selections during workshops or brainstorming sessions.


2023. Miro acquired visual collaboration service InVision



Miro has acquired InVision, a real-time app design collaboration service. This modern online service allows designers to create interactive prototypes of websites and apps, collaborate with clients, discuss mockups with clients and test UX. It helps bring designs to life and demonstrate how interfaces work. The deal includes InVision's technology and brand assets, client relationships and talented specialists. Miro thus combines visual interaction, product development workflows, diagramming, process and data visualization, webinars and asynchronous collaboration, AI for design generation and visual project management.


2023. Google is shutting down its Jamboard project



Google Jamboard, a device and app for collaborative interactive whiteboarding, will cease operations in a year - on September 30, 2024. The Jamboard is a 55-inch touchscreen for the office, on which you can (for now) draw, add images, text, and start video calls. It was complemented by an app that allowed you to participate in office meetings remotely using a regular tablet. And while Jamboard users can survive the closure of the app (after all, there are excellent alternatives - Miro, Figjam, Lucidspark), turning rather expensive touchscreens into pumpkins is certainly unpleasant news.


2022. Apple released free whiteboard app for iPhone and iPad


Whiteboards for collaborative drawing in real time are convenient for brainstorming, meetings, and co-design. Google has its own whiteboard service - Jamboard. Microsoft also has Microsoft Whiteboard. Now Apple has one too - Freeform. However, it only works for the lucky owners of iPhone, iPad, and Mac, as it is only available as an app, not in the browser (although to invite colleagues to the whiteboard, you need to send them a link). Otherwise, it is a fairly convenient application for freehand drawing, and also includes a library of 700 shapes that can be easily dragged onto the canvas. You can also insert images onto the board. You can turn on a grid to organize elements on the board. And, best of all, it is all free.


2021. Figma unveiled online collaborative whiteboard FigJam



Figma, the online graphic editor, initially focused on collaborative design work, has added whiteboard tool called FigJam. It enables real-time collaboration not only on design but also on related tasks, such as project planning. Teams can choose whiteboard templates with a set of components (for example, a Kanban board with cards or a diagram with algorithmic shapes) and draw on top of them. The product is integrated with Figma and allows for projects to be transferred to the whiteboard. FigJam also features voice chat, allowing for collaboration without the need for Zoom or Google Meet.

2017. Microsoft released Whiteboard app for laptops and tablets


Initially, the collaborative drawing application Microsoft Whiteboard was created for large electronic whiteboards Surface Hub. Now the company has released a desktop version of this application for tablets and laptops running Windows 10. Microsoft Whiteboard allows for online meetings, brainstorming sessions, and collaboration on various creative tasks with geographically remote employees. According to reviews, image synchronization between computers is quite fast. Drawn "boards" can be saved to an online account for future use. At least one user participating in collaborative work with the "whiteboard" must have a paid Office 365 account.


2011. Mikogo gets whiteboard and group chat



The free screen-sharing service Mikogo has added two very useful features: an interactive whiteboard for drawing and annotating images, and a group chat. Mikogo has also introduced a new HTML interface that allows users to participate in online meetings through a browser without installing a software agent. This HTML interface even works in the iPhone's mobile browser. However, this interface is view-only, meaning you can't share your screen using it.


2010. Adobe Connect 8: Desktop Client, Unified Audio/Video Conferencing



Adobe has released a new version of its web conferencing solution, Adobe Connect 8. The new version finally features a completely updated interface, inherited from Macromedia Breeze. Collaboration tools have been improved: chat, notes, a Q&A module, and whiteboard.
